BEING POSITIVE and HAVING A GRATEFUL ATTITUDE will determine how you're going to ENJOY YOUR LIFE!
''As a stroke survivor, we celebrate our progress one step at a time.
Our strength, resilience, and determination allows us to inspire our fellow stroke survivors when it comes to their own challenges. Our journey is not an easy one. But together, we find strength as we share our own stories, and navigate through the uncertainties to say, you are not alone''
''My bike was now parked in my livingroom taking up space. I hated it.
Alone one evening, I was determined to figure this out. I sat on my bike, my right side being my strength and balance, I tried again strapping my left foot. Although it didn't go smoothly, my left foot was in. To me that was a step forward, a positive thing.
I was able to make a couple rotations and it felt great. It didn't take long for my left foot to slide off the pedal again and I was getting exhausted after 3 rotations. Three rotations was a lot, it felt like I was behind a bus pushing it with all I had. Only stroke survivors who lost their mobility will understand that. My mind and body had to be re trained.''
Fast forward 2024 (4 years later). WE, as stroke survivors must learn to UNDERSTAND. And, learn to ADAPT. It is then we can move forward and embrace the new you! Sure, we need to learn to do things differently from how we used to do things, but that is called PROGRESS.
''repetition'' the action of repeating something.
I had to relearn, teach, and be patient with my injured side (leg). If I were to analyze this, my left leg/foot has no muscle tone (for others who cannot understand, think of a boiled spaghetti) now, try walking on that. With balance and full concentration with our cognitive brain (which is always doing over time), we slowly re wire the connections and each moment, each day, the brain remembers...and it becomes a little easier each time.
NOW, if my statement above is incorrect. I am here to pass on to my fellow stroke survivors around the world... I ride my recumbent bike 30 mins. a day (4-5 days week). I strap my left foot on, she does not slide off,and we ride.
MY COGNITIVE BRAIN HAS TRAINED HER WELL.
Buying my recumbent bike was the best thing I did in 2020. https://amzn.to/4aRmZpq
