Today's blog is about BEING GOOD TO YOUR BODY whether or not you had a stroke!
Every year since my stroke (March 2014) my doctor writes me a requisition for my bloodwork. And every year getting this done is like doing my taxes. First of alll, I am not a fan of needles! You know deep down it has to get done, and when its done, it's done done done! Just do it.
Stroke Survivor or Not...If you're a Foodie like me, the words ''in moderation'' should always apply. But sometimes it's a fail. Don't be too hard on yourself, EXCERCISE IS THE KEY!!
I've noticed my fellow stroke survivors are more aware of their eating habits, and vegetables they incorprate in their cooking. I have learned that as well. I thank you all!! I even did an experiment with a girlfriend to bring her cholesterol level down to support her change of diet.
She had a ''warning'' to change... this was a reality check from her doctor and if she did not change her eating habits, there was no going back. There was no more of,'' I'LL EAT APPLES AND BANANAS EVERYDAY'' or beg for forgiveness. Once the body warns you and gives you the signals to change your habits, Thats it! Isn't that enough to scare the crap out of you? Vegetables was the experiment. I wanted to prove vegetables were good for you, but were also over rated.
My stroke, as my cardiologist mentioned was inherited. As soon as I was born it was in my 'genes'. It is what it is.
Habits can be created, and a Healthy habits are a Bonus. I got hooked on vegetables, vegetable stir fry recipes, and with the help of gai lan (chinese brocolli) Summer 2020. I was not a fan of vegetables. Covid gave a boost to the experiment, and I wrote about it. Incorporating vegetables in my diet was amazing. I posted like mad on social media, and created a frenzy cooking with my right hand to prove stroke survivors with left or right side paralysis can create amazing dishes, we just needed gadgets to help us along the way.
Not only was I wrong, incorporating vegetables into my diet was doing something to my own LDL (Bad cholesterol) decreased. I felt a difference in my sleep pattern, and how amazing I felt during the day with more energy!!
My must haves in my kitchen are now vegetables, gai lan, avocados, lemons, limes, onion, spinach, eggs, cukes, and tomatoes, shredded cheese (covers the cobb salad) as the ''go to back up plan''...so far it works!!
''in moderation''
Be Good to your Body, and check you bp regularly...
THE GOOD. HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, sometimes called “good” cholesterol, absorbs cholestein the blood and carries it back to the liver.
THE BAD. LDL (low density lipoprotrein) cholesterol, sometimes called “bad” cholesterol, makes up most of your body's cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol raise your risk for heart disease and stroke.
THE UGLY. High cholesterol has no symptoms. A blood test is the only way to detect if you have it.
What are the warning signs of high cholesterol?
Nausea.
Numbness.
Slurred speech.
Extreme fatigue.
Chest pain or angina.
Shortness of breath.
Numbness or coldness in extremities.
High blood pressure.
***That alligator skin ''avocados'' does wonders...
Avocados are a source of vitamins C, E, K, and B6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids.
